The Block 2023 episode 33 recap: Leah and Kristy’s friendship implodes in bitter bust-up – Beragampengetahuan
The Block producers had the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever. And they did.
The episode everyone has been waiting for finishes with Kristy and Brett and Eliza and Liberty tying for first place for their en suite bathrooms.
And that means, you guessed it, the four mortal enemies heading off on an overnight stay together.
Here’s how we got here.

It’s the episode everyone’s been waiting for. Sure, there’s some bathroom judging, but the main event is Leah and Ash finally breaking up with their besties Kristy and Brett.
It’s been dawning on Leah all week that her association with Kristy and Brett is doing her no favours, culminating in Kristy calling her a “piece of s–t” for going and visiting Kristy’s arch enemies Liberty and Eliza’s house.
It’s hard to tell if Leah has genuinely recognised she and Kristy’s behaviour has been poor — or if it’s dawned on her she’s going to be portrayed as one of this season’s villains and that’s going to be bad for her and Ash’s home renovation business — but either way, she’s done.
And to her credit, she does take responsibility for the mean girl behaviour she engaged in herself.

“Everyone’s got sacrifices but I’ve got three babies at home. The only way I can get through this is to distract myself so I think I’ve been swept up. Kristy and I had a really great friendship, but I think we got really overtaken by them and their strong personalities. We became people that we’re just not. Even though we don’t hold the same opinions we were still listening to it, we were still engaging in conversations, and we didn’t stand up for what was right,” she says.
Leah resolves to go and see Kristy and Brett in an effort to convince them to change their ways, saying she hopes they will “have a lightbulb moment and think s–t, we’re not conducting ourselves really well here’.”
It’s not a discussion she’s looking forward to.
“I’m questioning someone’s whole personality, which is a huge conversation for me to have because it’s really going over there and going ‘hey, you’re a s–t person’.”
Needless to say, the conversation goes down like a bucket of cold sick with Kristy and Brett, who immediately go on the attack in the kind of argument that sounds like it belongs in a primary school.

“I could say the same about you,” Kristy counters. “Go and say all the stuff you’ve said about Steph to her face. Maybe I should have called it out when you were doing it to Steph and I didn’t because I wanted you to be you and I didn’t think anything you’ve said had weight. Steph has come to me multiple times and said you were mean to her, and I shut it down and I guess that’s the difference between you and I.”
Things are already antagonistic but when Leah mentions Eliza and Liberty by name Kristy’s rage becomes palpable.
“I’m not apologising for the conversation that Eliza and I had. I have nothing to apologise for,” she says.
It’s pretty clear that the friendship is over, and Kristy and Brett have their suspicions as to why. They question why Leah and Ash came to them with camera crew in tow, rather than having a private conversation in the pub.
“Leah and Ash are in this industry. They run a property business and there’s probably big things to come for them from this. I think she’s now thinking ‘this could affect my business’. She doesn’t want to be depicted as a mean girl,” Brett says.
When a producer later asks Kristy if she’s sad about losing a friend she replies “I wouldn’t
say it’s really a loss”.
And then it’s on to the judging.
The judges thought Kyle and Leslie’s shower spaces were too small and their room lacked enough vanity storage. Picture: Supplied, Channel Nine
Kyle and Leslie spent $25,969 on their master en suite, with separate double showers hidden behind two curved walls. The judges love the look but think the showers are too tight and there’s not enough storage in the small vanities they’ve installed.
Shaynna Blaze also has issues with the shower grate running down the middle of the wet area, claiming it means she’d have to straddle the grate, as if shower grates are unexploded ordinance.
“Space planning is their weakness,” Darren Palmer remarks.

Leah and Ash spent $26,014 on their enclosed and curved shower nook with suspended mirrors. The judges love it, except for what Darren Palmer describes as “juvenile” styling, and once again, a central shower grate.
“The grate is not going to bite you. Step on it!” Leah says.
Kristy and Brett dropped $31,608 on their room with ribbed vanity and fluted glass shower screens.
“This is an absolute gem,” Shaynna says.

Steph and Gian’s bill was $31,753 for a room with marble vanity that Shaynna and Darren initially declare luxurious, until Marty Fox changes their minds.
“I’ve been on the Steph and Gian train for a long time and I’m now jumping off at this stop. I feel I’m in some kind of quarantine facility,” he says, prompting Gian to ponder “I need to know where Marty quarantined”.
Shaynna and Darren now agree the space is cold and soulless.

Then it’s on to Eliza and Liberty’s $29,662 space which has plenty of storage, leg shaving wall niches in the shower and excellent styling.
When the scores come in the sister’s tie with Kristy and Brett. Scott Cam decides to give each team $10,000 rather than splitting the cash prize, and announces all four contestants will be heading for a night away at his place in Gisborne as a prize.

Engineered by the production? Maybe, but it’s the viewers who are the winners so who cares.
Especially as Machiavellian Kristy and Brett are cooking up a scheme to tell all.
“To be honest, I think it’s going to f–k with a lot of people on site’s head,” Kristy says. “Which I get pure amusement from.”
“This is going to get in Leah’s head,” Brett says.
“Big time,” Kristy agrees. “She’s going to be worried about the fact that things will come out.”
“Things Leah’s been saying, what’s been said, who told what,” Brett adds.
“The fact that Eliza can ask us directly what we’ve been saying. It is a perfect platform, away, to be able to discuss those things.”
“Being around them makes my skin crawl,” is Eliza’s reaction.
