Award-winning Queensland designer Chris Clout has sold a block of units he bought during the pandemic to a builder, walking away with a $500,000 gain without having to renovate.
Mr Clout, whose designs have seen the creation of some of the most celebrated homes in Queensland, had bought the four units in a multi-sale in Sunshine Beach for $3m in September 2021.

The property changed hands last month after being bought for $3.5m by second generation family builder Wade Jenner and his wife Claire, who are also mates another award-winning Queensland home designer Shaun Lockyer who designed their Sunshine Beach home for them almost eight years ago.
According to rental listings, two of the units were simply given a new paint job during Mr Clout’s time as owner, one of which also had some new flooring put down.
Mr Clout and wife Dani have sold the property to streamline their portfolio as they zero in on several new designer builds they have planned for Noosa Shire.
The Clouts repainted one unit and replaced its floor covering but the property is mostly as they bought it in 2021.

The price fetched by the units is a solid escalation, given Simon Palmer – the man who consolidated all four units by buying them off multiple owners in 1998 – paid $396,500 in total for them.
Chris Berg, the man who bought them off Mr Palmer in 2013 for $242,000 each, went on to sell them eight years later to Mr Clout at $750,000 each or $3m total multi-sale.
The properties have seen rental price rises over the two years that the Clouts owned them – three had existing tenants at between $330 and $395 a week in 2021, one of which came back up for rent at $495 a week in January 2023. The fourth two bedroom unit was listed for rent at $480 a week a year ago.
