Choosing the right difficulty in an RPG is one of the hardest choices to make. What’s more, once you start to get to the harder options, you might not be able to change it back. We’re going to hang out with our friends and take a look at all difficulties in Persona 3 Reload.

Since the release of Persona 3 Portable, players were only allowed to change their difficulty before they started a new playthrough. But thanks to the re-release of P3P in 2023, players could change their difficulty from the lowest all the way to the highest in the pause menu. For the remake, it seems Atlus has a few tricks up their sleeves. There are still a total of 5 difficulties for players to choose from, but some names and conditions have changed.

New difficulty in Persona 3 Reload

Let’s go ahead and show you the different names for all difficulties in Persona 3 Reload:

• Peaceful
• Easy
• Normal
• Hard
• Lunatic

Now as you can see, while the overall structure of the difficulty choices hasn’t changed, some things have. The “safe” or “beginner” mode has now been changed only in name to “Peaceful,” while the Mac Daddy of all difficulties, “Merciless,” is now “Lunatic.” It might be a bit crazy to look this deep into it, but many fans speculate that the max difficulty name change has to do with the fact that “Luna” is in the name, which is the Latin-derived word for “Moon.”

Aside from text being changed, there is actually a new feature reported with the change of the max difficulty. Now, when making a playthrough’s difficulty Lunatic, you’ll want to be absolutely sure you are up to the task. Because even though the feature of not carrying anything over on the hardest difficulty is still present, there is another stipulation.

If you decide at any time to lower the difficulty when playing on Lunatic, you cannot change it back. As if Persona 3 wasn’t hard enough, now players will be locked in for a merciless ride they can’t get off of when choosing the Lunatic difficulty. And if you do so happen to want off the ride, then sadly, there is no way back on.
