Newcastle United injuries – Some (slightly…) better news – Beragampengetahuan
Newcastle United injuries continue to dominate the headlines.
Hopes of a better case scenario on availability coming out of the international break, seemingly shattered on Saturday.
The thrilling fightback against West Ham also bringing with it yet more injuries.
However, a little bit of better news on Tuesday morning…
The usually very reliable Craig Hope of The Mail reporting – 2 April 2024:
‘In some (slightly) better NUFC injury news…
Lewis Miley has another scan this week but looks like bone bruising on back and not more serious. Could feature in final few games but won’t be rushed.
Nick Pope on track to return before end of season and make late push for Euros.’
As things stand for Everton tonight, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali are suspended.
Then the likes of Jamaal Lascelles, Nick Pope, Lewis Miley, Joelinton, Callum Wilson and Sven Botman all look set to be missing for most of, if not all, the rest of this season.
Miguel Almiron and Tino Livramento limped off against West Ham and their condition unknown, whilst Kieran Trippier nor Matt Targett were missing from the matchday squad on Saturday.
With this quartet of players I am guessing we will be a lot wiser when we see tonight’s matchday squad and whatever info Eddie Howe gives after the game with regard to Newcastle United injuries.
As things appear to stand currently for tonight, Eddie Howe has three goalkeepers in Dubravka, Karius and Gillespie, plus ‘mature’ squad players Ritchie and Dummett. Which means we look to have only these first team regulars / semi-regulars available for the outfield positions against Everton – Schar, Burn, Hall, Bruno, Longstaff, Willock, Barnes, Murphy, Anderson, Isak and Krafth.
Though of these players, this season the only Premier League starts some of them have had, are Karius 1, Gillespie 0, Krafth 0, Hall 1, Anderson 4, Willock 4, Dummett 0, Ritchie 0, Barnes 3, Murphy 5.
Whilst the likes of Joe White and Alfie Harrison are also very likely to be named in tonight’s squad and neither of them has ever started an NUFC first team game.
Anthony Gordon of course has only a one game suspension so will be back for Fulham away on Saturday and we just have to keep on hoping Bruno can keep his run going and not pick up another yellow in these next three matches which would trigger a two game ban for picking up 10 yellows in the opening 32 PL matches.
Elsewhere, we have to be hoping the likes of Trippier, Targett, Livramento and Almiron, at least two or three of them can come back in tonight or at least very shortly.
It would be a massive boost to see Nick Pope return before the end of the season and Lewis Miley deserves better than to see his season ended by injury. He also looked really good in more recent matches when able to come on as an impact sub, rather than that massive expectation on a 17 year old starting in midfield.
As well as Nick Pope, there have been positive noises around both Callum Wilson and Joelinton potentially returning before the season ends, though anything we get out of them would surely have to be seen as a massive bonus.
