Hip-Hop, Turtles, Giallo and Shaw Brothers coming in December from Arrow Video – beragampengetahuan – Beragampengetahuan

Christmas is just around the corner and it’s time for you to think deeply about what Christmas gifts you want to give to yourself. Arrow Video is ready to take over your lists with four titles arriving in December. First up is Wild Style, a great portrait of hip-hop culture in the Bronx before it exploded on Yo! MTV Raps. The movie is about Zoro, a graffiti artist who discovers the his form of art is getting noticed by folks in Manhattan. They’re eager to buy pieces that aren’t on the side of subways and buildings since those don’t often fit in the largest of Upper West apartments. But can he sell out to the posh crowd. The film captures what was going on in the Bronx. These are real clubs and real rappers and real breakdances performing on camera. You’re getting the real Fab Five Freddy. And the film doesn’t sugar coat things such as when Patti Astor is reminded the Bronx can be dangerous. The soundtrack features the work of my favorite Bluesky follow Chris Stein of Blondie. The 4K UHD takes you inside the early days of hip-hop before it would become accepted around the world. The House With The Laughing Windows was on my shortlist of giallo movies that hadn’t come out properly in America. Now it is here and in 4K UHD. The movie centers on an art restorer discovering that the artist behind a church fresco was into torturing his models. Making things worse is there’s a killer hitting the rural Italian town. It’s a lethal art house film.

Shawscope Volume 4 arrives with another 16 movies from the legendary Hong Kong studio. While the previous three volumes covered their finest of martial arts and wuxia flicks, Volume 4 covers the time when the studio was looking for the next big thing. Shaw Brothers were willing to do anything around this time. The legendary Super Inframan was the studio’s version of Ultraman and Space Giants. I still remember the commercials when it came out in America. Other films include the bizarre Oily Man. There’s a lot of supernatural fighting in the films. These films are more than the usual martial arts fighting. The last is perhaps your childhood favorite with the arrival of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trilogy on 4K UHD. These are the original three feature films that had live action turtles fighting people. None of that CGI stuff. You’re seeing the amazing suits having to fight in front of a real life Vanilla Ice. Go Ninja!!!! So pick out your favorite Christmas pizza and absorb all the Turtle power!

A unique hybrid of fiction and documentary, the story of lone graffiti artist Lee “Zoro” Quiñones trying to achieve success on his own terms.

cover art

In early 1980s New York City, independent filmmaker Charlie Ahearn and downtown artist Fred Brathwaite ventured uptown with the aim of capturing an exciting new underground scene that was happening in the South Bronx, a scene that featured graffiti artists, breakdancing b-boys and two turntables and a microphone. The result was Wild Style, and to many viewers it was their first glimpse of the musical and cultural phenomenon called hip-hop. In this unique hybrid of fiction and documentary, the story of lone graffiti artist Lee “Zoro” Quiñones trying to achieve success on his own terms is brought to vivid life with support by Fred “Fab 5 Freddy” Brathwaite, Sandra “Lady Pink” Fabara and Patti Astor, and with historic music performances by such luminaries as Grandmaster Flash, Busy Bee, The Fantastic Five, The Cold Crush Brothers and The Rock Steady Crew. To create the score, Chris Stein (Blondie) would collaborate with Brathwaite to produce the actual breakbeats to be used in the film, an inspired decision that would provide a source of obsession among crate diggers for decades to come. Endlessly sampled, imitated and debated, Wild Style is the truest portrait of the hip-hop scene during its early years, and remains one of the most important music films ever made. Arrow Films is proud to present Wild Style in an exclusive new 4K restoration with hours of brand-new bonus features, vintage interviews and featurettes.

Often counted among the greatest gialli ever made, The House with Laughing Windows offers a uniquely eerie twist on the genre.

cover art

While typically famed for its lurid Technicolor hues and grand guignol murders, the Italian giallo thriller had a less bombastic side as well. Erring less towards exploitation than to art, these lesser-seen gems offer some of the greatest rewards for adventurous viewers. Among them, 1976’s The House with Laughing Windows, directed and co-written by Pupi Avati (Zeder), rises up as the cream of the crop. Art restorer Stefano (Lino Capolicchio, The Bloodstained Shadow) arrives at an isolated Italian village to repair a fresco depicting the agonizing martyrdom of Saint Sebastian. The original painter was a death artist – a madman so obsessed with mortality that, according to whispered rumors, he tortured his models in their final moments of life. When people begin to turn up dead, Stefano is forced to consider the possibility that the artist has returned to continue his brutal career – and that he is the primary target. Often counted among the greatest gialli ever made, The House with Laughing Windows offers a uniquely eerie twist on the genre, culminating in an unforgettable ending that will remain with you long after the credits have rolled. Arrow Video is proud to present this landmark title in its North American 4K Ultra HD debut.

From slimy creatures to supernatural wizardry to sex-crazed serial killers, the biggest collection in Arrow Video’s Shawscope series yet.

cover art

One of Shaws’ most beloved cult classics, Hua Shan’s tokusatsu tribute SUPER INFRAMAN stars Danny Lee (The Killer) as the titular high-kicking superhero, defending the planet against a demon queen and her legion of subterranean mutant minions. Lee also stars as a monster vigilante issuing vicious justice in Ho Meng-hua’s creeptastic OILY MANIAC and as the prince granted magical powers in Pao Hsueh-li’s fantastical wuxia BATTLE WIZARD Director Ho next treats us to a double-helping of occult mayhem with BLACK MAGIC and its sequel, where Ti Lung battles wicked voodoo doctors with the power to cast spells and raise the dead. Four more doses of unhinged madness follow from Kuei Chih-hung in the form of BEWITCHED and the HEX trilogy, an unforgettable quadruple serving of possession and witchcraft that presaged his notorious brain-melting classic The Boxer’s Omen.

Master filmmaker Chor Yuen adds a dose of horror to his trademark wuxia-mystery style in BAT WITHOUT WINGS in which a young sword fighter must end a deranged martial arts master-turned-multiple murderer’s perverted rampage. Hua Shan returns with BLOODY PARROT an eye-poppingly vivid horror fantasy about two swordsmen hunting a demon that offers to grant wishes. Lau Kar-wing’s kung fu jiangshi comedy THE FAKE GHOST CATCHERS sees two conmen unwittingly enlisted to battle spirits from the underworld, while Tang Tak-cheung’s hair-raising wuxia fantasia DEMON OF THE LUTE has to be seen to be believed. Yang Chuen’s gruesome splatterfest SEEDING OF A GHOST has a taxi driver enlist a necromancer’s help in avenging the murder of his wife, with sickening results; and Hua Shan returns with PORTRAIT IN CRYSTAL, a deliriously imaginative tale of a murderous swordswoman brought to life through a crystal sculpture. Last but not least, Alex Cheung’s TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR is an out-of-this-world comedy in which city girl Cherie Chung is abducted by aliens and taken to a galaxy far, far away…

A shell-shocking saga of mutants, martial arts, New York mayhem, comic book grit, practical effects wizardry and pizza-fuelled fun.

cover art

A shell-shocking saga of mutants, martial arts and New York mayhem, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trilogy brought comic book grit, practical effects wizardry and pizza-fueled fun to a generation of moviegoers, helping turn four sewer-dwelling brothers into global pop culture icons.

Launching in 1990 with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, director Steve Barron‘s gritty, high-energy adaptation of the underground comic became a box office phenomenon, fusing martial arts action, streetwise humor and the groundbreaking animatronics of Jim Henson‘s Creature Shop. The 1991 sequel The Secret of the Ooze is an irresistibly fun second slice: a deep-dive into the turtles’ origins where new mutant foes Tokka and Rahzar are thrown in the mix… double the stakes, double the pizza! Rounding out the trilogy, 1993’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III sends the heroes in a half shell back to feudal Japan in a time-travel adventure full of samurai showdowns, ancient legends and comic chaos.

Restored in glorious 4K and packed with extras, this radical set celebrates the legacy of Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael in one of the most iconic franchises of the era, blending innovative effects, comic-book heart and early ’90s attitude.
