How high should Washington be ranked?
I’ve had Washington ranked higher than most on my ballot for a few weeks now but was waiting for a marquee win to consider vaulting the Huskies to No. 1. They got just that on Saturday against a legitimate top-10 Oregon team. The combination of Michael Penix Jr. and one of the nation’s deepest receiving corps in Kalen DeBoer’s offense has been nearly impossible to stop, as Washington averages a national-high 8.5 yards per play.
A case could be made for anyone in the top six or so to be ranked No. 1 in a season that still feels wide-open in terms of the championship race. I chose Washington, which has largely looked like a better team than Georgia to this point and now has a better win than either the Bulldogs or Michigan, making me one of two voters to place the Huskies atop a ballot.

How will Week 8 impact the AP poll?
Attention turns to the Big Ten for the first of three potential top-10 showdowns in the final year of the East Division. First up: No. 7 Penn State at No. 3 Ohio State. The Nittany Lions have frequently played the Buckeyes close but are just 1-8 in the series since James Franklin took over in 2014. They last won in Columbus in 2011. The winner on Saturday will find itself in the thick of Playoff contention, though both have November dates to come against No. 2 Michigan — which meets rival Michigan State on Saturday.
Elsewhere, No. 17 Tennessee visits No. 11 Alabama, searching for its first win in Tuscaloosa since 2003 after ending a 15-game losing streak in the series a year ago. Other ranked matchups include No. 16 Duke at No. 4 Florida State and No. 14 Utah at No. 18 USC.
