Let’s Talk Metaphor: ReFantazio

Today’s video is Creator’s Voice, where Metaphor: ReFantazio’s Director – Katsura Hashino, Character Designer – Shigenori Soejima and Composer – Shoji Meguro provide new details regarding the anticipated new IP from Atlus.

Kicking off with the story, we learn that Metaphor: ReFantazio’s set in a separate world from ours, one inhabited by eight tribes. We know of one area called the United Kingdom of Euchronia, a union founded by a king and ruled by a royal family with inherited magical powers. This family has become corrupt and is now known as a virtueless nation.

The video says dangerous monsters called Humans run rampant and make the land unsafe for all those outside the walls of the city, with the assassination of the Euchronian prince and king being the catalyst for more unruly events.

The Eight Tribes

The Clemar tribe is known for the regal horns adorning each side of their heads. While their physical abilities are average, they hold pivotal roles within the royal family and monarchy, establishing themselves as the central tribe in the kingdom. The belief in their centrality subtly permeates their collective consciousness.

The Roussainte tribe is distinguished by its elongated ears. The Roussainte boast a formidable physique and prowess, often finding themselves in military roles. Their combative nature is driven by an unyielding pursuit of victory, evaluating the superiority or inferiority of all they encounter.

The Ichthyia tribe have graceful wings adorn the bodies of the Ichthyia tribe, who surpass others in intellect. Many excel in intellectual pursuits, occupying roles such as scholars and clergymen and amassing wealth. Despite admiration, some disdain them for perceived arrogance.

With a lifespan double that of other tribes, the Rogue tribe emphasizes the passing down of knowledge. They dominate seniority-based positions, reflecting their unique aging pattern. Their culture values the transmission of wisdom and purpose.

Large eyes and unique eye colours distinguish the Nidia tribe; the Nydia tribe is sociable and charismatic. However, some view them negatively as “untrustworthy smooth talkers” or “weirdos.”

Defined by beast-like ears and tails, the physically strong Palipas tribe is pleasure-seeking. While their love for feasting and cheerfulness can be advantageous, their impulsiveness draws disdain from other tribes.

Sporting bat-like wings and ears, the Eugief tribe faces discrimination for their distinct appearance. Despite their cooperative nature, they often occupy lower ranks and lead modest lives marked by constant concern for others.

The Mutsutari tribe, with a “third eye” on their foreheads, stands out with unique masks and attire. Following a separate faith, they face persecution as “heretics,” shrouding them in an air of mystery on the mainland.

The Story

The protagonist is a member of the Elda Tribe, and he is sent on a journey with his companion, the fairy Gallica, to lift a curse. To do that, the protagonist must find the person responsible for initially casting the curse, and we join the hero in his journey across this mysterious new world.

With the United Kingdom of Euchronia without a prince or king, the nation rallies for a new ruler but amid all the chaos, magic undoes much of the kingdom at the king’s funeral.

So the protagonist throws himself into the nation’s running as others look to nominate themselves for the position.

Battle System

Atlus says the battle system in Metaphor: ReFantazio is an evolution of the battle system shown in Persona 5, as it combines action and command in battle. Of note, the developers mention that trash mobs do not need to be engaged and can be easily wiped away.

Additionally, the cast of characters joining the party is fully customizable and can be utilized in party formations.

The World

Later in the video, the developers reveal the Daily Life mechanics from the Persona series return with updated mechanics. You and your party can decide what to do throughout the day and even travel between the various cities using your armoured base, the Gauntlet Runner.

Metaphor: ReFantazio will launch for beragampengetahuan 4, beragampengetahuan 5, beragampengetahuan One, beragampengetahuan Series, and PC in 2024.
