Chart-topping house DJ and producer Benny Jay is selling a home in Melbourne’s western suburbs featuring Australia’s “best home-based backyard recording studio”.

In 2021, Jay’s remix of fellow disc jockey Jolyon Petch’s track Holding On hit number one on the ARIA Club Chart.

Jay, whose other songs have consistently reached the club chart’s top 10, has put his four-bedroom house at 2 Greenwich Court, Brookfield, near Melton, on the market with a $819,000-$879,000 price guide.

The full studio is its own seperate dwelling in the yard.

Barry Plant Melton partner Ned Nikolic declined to comment on the owner but Jay’s official website followed the studio’s construction including installation of a Solid State Logic mixing console imported Miami, Florida – the same model used in the recording of heavy metal band Metallica’s Black album.

“I would say it’s the best home-based backyard recording studio in Australia by far,” Mr Nikolic, a former musician himself, said.

The soundproofed building includes separate rooms for recording voices and instruments, plus the main mixing area, a self-contained kitchen and toilet.

Mr Nikolic said some potential buyers had inquired about converting the studio into a separate house for their parents or even a yoga and wellness space.

It is joined in the garden by more than 40 palm trees, fruit trees and a vegetable plot.

A renovation completed earlier this year added a new kitchen and bathroom to the main house itself.

There are also two bathrooms, two living or rumpus rooms, a laundry and double garage.
