An Instagram-famous Burleigh Heads home that has hosted a roll call of popular influencers and big brands has hit the market.

Stylist owner Alicia Curtis began documenting her renovation of a dated beachside property on social media in 2018, never imagining the reach it would have.

Fast-forward 5 years, and Ms Curtis has listed her luxe bohemian-style coastal home which became one of the Gold Coast’s most sought-after photoshoot locations.

The five-bedroom, two-bathroom home on a 929 sqm block is marketed for auction on December 14 by Troy Fitzgerald and Adrian Correa, of Ray White Burleigh Heads.

“Flipping homes was my thing, so when I moved up from Melbourne I bought this very cool 1980s house on the hill, and once I started applying white paint it gained attention very quickly,” Ms Curtis said.

Her page, called My Burleigh Reno, has about 102,000 followers, showcasing an all-white-and-neutral aesthetic mixed in with savvy DIY projects and tips for renovating on a budget.

Ms Curtis’ first photoshoot client was fitness model Sophie Guidolin.

“They tagged me in the photos posted on social media and I have not stopped since that day.

“The demand was so great, particularly over Covid. I was run off my feet, doing up to 10 shoots a week.”

The pool area, featuring expansive decking with built-in day beds, a poolside cabana, and two charming tiki bars, was the prime choice for brands and influencers. Rates start from $150 an hour.

Clients have ranged from fashion magazines, beauty pagaent finalists and local designers to retail giants such as Robina Town Centre, Big W, and PillowTalk, along with a who’s-who of Queensland’s best-known social media identities, including Tammy Hembrow, Ellie Gonsalves and Ashy Bines.

The three-level home has been freshly renovated and landscaped and cuts a striking exterior statement of bright white, bold lines and textures.

Inside, relaxed living spaces include a loft-style family room and dining area flowing onto an elevated al fresco deck.

Two bedrooms are downstairs, while the master with its soaring raked ceiling is on the first floor, along with the remaining bedrooms, a day spa-style bathroom and another family room.

Ms Curtis’ knack for beachside chic has been credited with sending the emerging modern coastal design trend into overdrive — inspiring many other similarly breezy new homes.

Some, she notes, were designed specifically to suit use as backdrop.

But despite a slew of copycat homes, a flawless abode didn’t necessarily guarantee bookings.

“Having a point of difference is important. It’s not just about copying me, which a lot of people did.

“People still want the old house with the Hills Hoist and the barbecue. They don’t all want a flash house,” she said.

The location hire industry has expanded in line with influencer marketing, with dedicated websites charging homeowners to list their properties nationwide.

There’s a variety of living spaces

Ms Curtis, however, said almost all her bookings came direct through social media.

It’s been a thrilling ride, working with so many different creatives over the years, but not one without its downside.

“A lot of people say you get paid for doing nothing, but it’s not for everyone. If you’re a private person, it probably wouldn’t suit you, and there is a lot of cleaning as you have to be prepared to stage the house like a show home.”

It’s a regretful sale for Ms Curtis, who is moving on for personal reasons, but also an opportunity to take on another exciting project with an entirely different look.

“I will definitely renovate, and not with the intent to be a shoot location, but if people would love to come and share my spaces they will be most welcome,” she said.
