A new mid-century modernist home built with a Palm Springs-style exterior has been snapped up after two bidders contested an auction.
The three-bedroom home at 1 Sargeant St, Geelong West sold for $1.55 million after it was passed in to the highest bidders.
Bidding began at $1.45m between two groups, with a couple bringing the bidding up to $1.525m before the property was passed in.

Following successful negotiations which led to a sold sticker slapped across the board, Gartland, Geelong agent Michael Marmora said the couple had plans to live in the home and were local to the area.
Slate tiling, an induction cooktop and a pyrolytic oven can be found in the kitchen.

He added that the vendors worked building a new property each year and built-to-sell like Sargeant St.
“Every single detail has been precisely considered and masterfully crafted from the Palm Springs outside exterior vibe through to the mid-century interiors,” he said.
“We are really the perfect distance between Pakington St, Bakers Oval, (and) Elizabeth St.
“We’ve got all the amenities we could ever need right within a one kilometre radius of Geelong West.”
Initial price hopes for the property prior to auction was $1.5m-$1.65m.

The vendor, who built the property alongside architect firm James Deans & Associates, had earlier told the Addy he had a soft spot for mid-century modernism and saw the chance to do something different in Geelong West.
“Nothing like that has been done in Geelong West previously so I thought I’d break away from the norm and do something unique,” he said.

“Definitely the interior side of it pays homage to the mid-century era. The whole house has raked ceilings, there’s the brick bedhead where we put in pigeon holes out of teak with LED strips in them.
“There’s teak cabinetry throughout and little details like all the timber doors and arcs, that is really representative of that mid-century era.”
