2 dead in Parkville after Baltimore County police respond to domestic disturbance, report shooting at armed man – Beragampengetahuan

Two people are dead after Baltimore County Police responded to a domestic dispute at a house in Parkville. County police say a man exchanged gunfire with officers and died at the scene, while a woman’s body was found inside.

Police said Arnel Redfern, 52, and Maxine Redfern, 48, died about 11:30 p.m. Friday at the home in the 2700 block of Maple Avenue.

The Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office said Saturday it was investigating, as it does statewide in cases involving the fatal use of force by law enforcement.

As the first responding county officer approached the home, they heard shots and a woman screaming inside, according to a news release from the attorney general’s office that described an initial review of evidence. The man later identified as Arnel Redfern opened a door and fired at police, the attorney general’s office said.

“During the incident, three officers discharged their weapons,” the attorney general’s office statement said.

County police said in a statement of their own that “after an exchange of gunfire, that subject was located fatally wounded outside the home. A handgun was recovered near the suspect’s body.”

Maxine Redfern was found dead in the residence, which is listed in state real estate records as having been purchased by Arnel Redfern in 2017.

“The first subject is believed to have been shot by the second subject before engaging in the shooting with the police,” county police spokesperson Anthony Shelton said in an email. “The Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the actual cause of both of their deaths.”

Shelton said the Redferns’ marital status is unknown. However, online court records show that last month, the Baltimore County Sheriff’s Office served Arnel Redfern with an Oct. 10 divorce summons from Maxine Redfern. The Baltimore County Circuit Court had issued a protective order Oct. 17 against Arnel Redfern, ordering him to surrender all firearms and refrain from abuse.

County homicide detectives are investigating what led to Maxine Redfern’s death.

The attorney general’s office said the county officers wore body cameras. It may release the footage within 20 business days, depending whether investigators have finished interviewing witnesses, among several factors. Additionally, the division generally releases the names of officers it is investigating within two business days.

The neighborhood was quiet Saturday afternoon. People answered their doors with tired eyes and declined to speak with a reporter. Many said they were too shaken up.

Some families had already started decorating for Christmas. String lights were woven around a railing leading up to the front door of one home. In the front yard of another home, two inflatable dinosaurs gave each other a kiss.

The Redferns had a dog, a terrier with black ears, that nobody had seen since the night before, neighbors said.
