There are also players in the squad that have long-dreamed of wearing the blaugrana colours as childhood supporters of the team. The likes of which include Pedri, Felix, and of course, Frenkie de Jong.

The Dutchman’s love for the club is well-documented, and so is his desire to continue at the Camp Nou.

While he was close to leaving the Catalans last summer for Manchester United, he refused to put his foot down, and has now earned a place in the team as one of the most important players for Xavi.

Barcelona are thoroughly impressed with his commitment and performances, and ready to extend his contract, which expires in the summer of 2026, according to a report published by SPORT.

Cule for life; with conditions

Barcelona want to lock down de Jong as a blaugrana for the rest of his career. They are ready to offer him a very long contract, which will practically resemble a life-long renewal.

They want to make their commitment known to the Dutchman, especially after trying to sell him in the summer of 2022.

However, the club wants the player to make an economic effort, as well, which will see him earn less for the better part of the next two years before his salary can be increased again.

De Jong very happy at Barcelona

De Jong was understandably upset at the club for trying to forcefully offload him to Manchester United, and expressed it publicly as well. However, things have calmed down since then, and the player feels an important part of the team once again.

He is happy at Barcelona, but is in no rush to renew his contract right now. He will take his time to reflect when and if the club opens formal negotiations for the extension.

Barça have already contacted de Jong’s agents to open talks, but no official movements can be expected before the January transfer window, at the very least.
