Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) is seeking a Research Scientist. Situated at beragampengetahuan Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD, the Research Scientist will support the beragampengetahuan team and contribute to the development and operation of its modeling capabilities. The position involves land surface modeling within the beragampengetahuan software framework for agricultural and water resources applications, generation of maps and figures derived from modeling outputs, and distribution of the derived products and model outputs on the project website and data portals for access by downstream users in the food security and water resources community. 

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Atmospheric Science, Hydrology, Agro-climatology, or related discipline and 2+ years of experience working with Earth systems models or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in building or working with different Earth system components in an operational environment.
• Proficiency with Python, Unix/Linux OS, shell scripting, multiprocessor environments, and an understanding of MPI.
• Experience in writing and reviewing technical reports and/or scientific publications.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to successfully work independently and within a multi-disciplinary team in virtual and in-person environments.
• US citizenship or Permanent Residence in order to gain access to federal government IT and physical locations. 

Desired Qualifications:

• PhD in relevant field.
• Familiarity with technologies such as LIS is highly desired.
• Experience with Fortran, and C languages is strongly desired.
